NEW VOTE: What shall we call ourselves? [Deadline 10th May 11:59 pm GMT]

UPDATE:

In the best traditions of the Democratic Party, the longlist of names suggested on the Forum resulted in a wide distribution of votes and no clear endorsement across the group (see chart below).

To help clarify the signal, I suggest that we vote again today on the following poll:

Earth Issues (26%) and Global Sensemaking (21%) were the two leading candidates from the first round of polling, and I have included a "Neither" option in case the underlying signal from the group is "start again".

I hope that this is a constructive and fair response to the voting pattern observed yesterday—but if you disagree please don't hesitate to raise this below.

Voting on the second round closes today at 11:59 pm GMT (Saturday 10th May).

FIRST ROUND RESULTS:

NOTES:

(1) You may vote for one option only in this round of voting.

(2) I suggest that we use the .net extension (if available) and secure/redirect the .com .org extensions (where possible).

(3) If the proposer of the winning name is happy for me to do so, I'll purchase the name on the group's behalf immediately after voting closes, and aim to set up the new domain over the weekend. If the proposer of the winning name would prefer to do this his/herself just let me know and we'll co-ordinate over the weekend.

(4) I suggest that we switch from private to public group status with the adoption of the new name / URL. If anyone objects to this please flag this in a comment below.

Just to clarify, this is the domain name by which we call ourselves...

Would be of interest to know how many people voted. By my reckoning at the moment, 10 people voted (20,20,20,30,10 percents), (2,2,2,3,1 votes).

Mark: Yes it's the domain name.

Jack: 11 votes, 7 people (at the time of writing) -- with some opting to vote for a shortlist.

In small numbers, it's amazing how things jiggle. GlobalSensemaking got knocked off its pedestal to tie with EarthIssues with just one vote. To tell the truth, I never figured out how to "opt" for anything; I just ended up clicking on one of them and the display went away. I can be pretty dense at times.

I'm confused. We have 26 members in this forum (including Simon twice!). I voted for just one thing which (it's implied) has more weight than someone voting for more than one (which some people have done). My choice came up as still with 0% (presumably this means <0.5%) - and yet I am c. 4% of the voting population (and I should have extra weight because I only voted for one). Or is there a much larger pool of voters?

Well, we've seen voting machines forget to count ballots before...

I noticed that the vote results display needs a refresh, and even then sometimes lags. If you got 0% it's lagging.

Robert, your vote should have raised the option you selected above zero. Has it been reflected on screen yet?

There was a short period earlier today when I was unable to access the Quibblo server; so this might have been a factor. If you are happy to let me know (either here or via e-mail) which option you voted for I'll investigate what happened with Quibblo.

The Quibblo poll results are based solely on votes cast—thus far by less than half of the group.

Ah, refreshing the page has raised my choice to 6%. Presumably that's my one vote - but still on the low side if it's 1/13th. Never mind - I'm used to being right but out-voted.

Hi all

I sense the desire for a name that goes beyond just debate, and given the importance of simulation and other SM tools in both climate, and other domains, I'd be more than happy to go for GlobalSensemaking.net as a broad umbrella under which we can spin off different thematic streams (the first being something like /climatechange or /globalwarming ?)
